Style Your Wardrobe Challenge: 5 scenarios

I was inspired by RunCarla to post this challenge in order to better understand my style. 2 years ago, Jenn posted this ‘style your wardrobe’ challenge https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....-challenge and I’m repeating it now.

The 5 challenge outfits were:

- date night

- important meeting

-a wedding

- working around the house

- running errands

The collage below shows different refinement levels and activities.  I don’t really have important meetings anymore LOL but I did include some appointments that I dressed a little better for: two date nights, ukelele band performance, optometrist and yearly check up.

I tend to dress in a flexible way for most days so I can do various things and change out accessories or third piece to dress it up or down without changing my base.  A good example is the second to last outfit.  I was wearing the charcoal knit onesie for home, but added a wool sweater and hiking boots to go meet some friends for a hike and coffee.  I could easily change to different accessories to head out to dinner.

Do you see any consistency of style words/themes across these scenarios? I would love to hear your thoughts on mine and please post your own if this intrigues you.

I like your style, Lana! I warn you, I am no expert at all at style descriptors. That said, what I see is comfy/creative/playful with excellent sense of colour. From your style one could guess you are an artist without knowing. I do not see Androgynous.

    GREAT challenge!

KILLER all round Lana, and pic #4 (outfit #3) is KILLER to the Power of KILLER :) That jacket is WOW AWESOME.

You look glorious is white jeans and boots, and the silky fabrics are a sublime luxe and soft touch. Beautiful with your silver hair

    Theme words I see:

    • relaxed elegance
    • arty
    • alluring
    • casual
    • tough romantic
    • soft edge
    • monochromatic
    • neutral
    • polished
    • silver-blue
    • comfortable
    • fluidly structured

I love your style on you!

  • Lana replied 2 years ago

Thank you Sisi!  This was fun.

Oh Angie, I love those words!  I will ponder this a bit.  Thank you.

I have to rush but will be back -- just want to say, this was a GREAT challenge and you rose to it like the queen of challenges. Your style feels entirely consistent and is glorious on you. Gorgeous outfits one and all.

    Back with some words later.

Artful romantic? Retro bohemian? After seeing this collage, I don’t think androgynous applies any longer.  There is a retro element, but it is 20’s and 30’s vs the the rockabilly retro or 70’s, 80’s and Y2K revisits that are trending hard at the moment.  Yes to the art nouveau element you identified in your earlier thread.  More Beardsley than Bloomsbury.  Jazz age.  I see this with the luxe fabrics, and flowing silhouettes.

I’d like to say something about your colour palette, but I can’t put my finger on it.  All the blues!  But they aren’t watery.  They remind me more of English and French Gardens full of Iris, lavender, catmint, delphiniums, roses, peonies, Lamb’s ears (and other silvery foliage).

I see casual, romantic and … industrial. Ok, I’m searching for a word. The once industrial section of my town is having a renaissance, being made into something not industrial. It’s got a distinct aesthetic… Angie’s tough made pretty…

Your style does look distinctive and cohesive. I like how your style highlights your hair and eyes; they are what I notice first.
Here's a stab at some of what I see:
    sophisticated
    bold
    luxe
    urban
    cool, icy color palette
    creative, artful
    relaxed elegance (stealing from Angie)

Modern romantic? You are on trend but with romantic elements to soften the trend pieces.

  • Lana replied 2 years ago

Cat2, firecracker and rachylou I like the words Romantic and Urban or Industrial Luxe. Maybe my style is flipped — more a refined neighborhood that is becoming more industrial and dangerous. Lol

RunCarla, the color palette you’re describing (which includes all my favorite flowers btw). Sounds romantic and moody to me like icy colors in a midnight garden.

You are all so amazing, thank you so much! I will mull all these responses over and try to put some words together in a way that sounds right to me.

Fabulous! Love the jacket of course and navy camisole in Date Night look! You have elegant and polished style - YLF!

  • Bijou replied 2 years ago

This is amazing and there is a luxe consistency to your style. Modern, edgy and glamorous at all times!

  • Cardiff girl replied 2 years ago

I agree that you definitely have a consistency about your style.Your colour palette is cool (and veering towards muted)probably because you have gorgeous silver hair and this complements it.Theres definitely a romantic side with the florals and floaty fabrics but you temper that with a more structured  silhouette,Prehaps because it’s more practical for  day today?

You look great in monochromatic outfits, & I love your style.
