Searching for Funky Shoes

I typically wear booties and sneakers in the fall, winter and spring, switching to sneakers and sandals for summer but am on the hunt for some more “refined” but funky creative shoes with lower heels (2” or less)  to wear with jeans, skirts and dresses in the warm weather. I need support and coverage due to lymphedema in my right leg and can wear T strap style, or cage but prefer coverage. I tend to shop at Nordstrom because of the returns policy but that is really limiting me.

A brand called A.S.98 which seems to have lots of possibilities but expensive. I would love to hear your source recommendations for shoes that are a little unusual and creative, but not too dramatic. Janet, Suz and Brooklyn?

I'm neither Janet, Suz nor Brooklyn, but I believe I "get" the look you're after. Try Fly London, Miz Mooz  or Free People.  They are easy to find on line .

Thank you LJP!  I really like Miz Mooz and will check out the others.

Bueno is another company with interesting shoes.

  • Lana replied 1 year ago

Thanks Jaileen for the source. I will check them out.

I have a pair of AS98 sandal mules and they are well-made and great unique style. They are a good fit on my feet, which are slightly low-volume and slightly narrow. Check out Free People too — they have some similar styles. You may find something interesting by Born/Sofft. Rag & bone has some good styles but $$. Pikolonos may work if you have a narrower foot.

I’m on a similar hunt but for a specific chunky-refined sandal. If I see some good possibilities, I’ll share for sure!

    Try Fluevog too.

Yes, fluevog.com.  I was just looking there!

Try Intentionally Blank, Cydwoq, and United Nude. I have or had footwear from these brands. They are comfortable with a refined funky element that I seek out in my footwear.

More votes for United Nude, Miz Mooz and Fly London!

Lana- A.S.98 seems to be the parent company of Miz Mooz, which is still really nice quality but a little cheaper. I would recommend looking there. I think they have a lot of options that may work for you.

i'll suggest a company called All Black, sometimes Anthro sells them, and i've seen them at smaller local boutiques, but you can always buy them on line

Ooooooo so much shoe candy. Thanks everyone!  I will check out fluevog and the others for sure

Janet, I have these from free people but I never wear them, maybe it’s the pointed toe but they are excellent quality.

Just came back from a short mall crawl at a suburban mall in the Big City.  Visited quite a few shoe stores looking for sandals for DH, and a dressy flat in navy or silver to replace the 8yo navy ones I just retired.

It might be the nature of the mall, but there really wasn’t much ‘dressy’ footwear at all in the shoe shops or shoe departments.  Lots and lots of sneaker variations, Birkenstocks, pool slides, and some colourful loafers that were more driving shoe than loafer, IYKWIM.  I was surprised by the lack of diversity in footwear.

My brown boots are AS 98 and they are really well made as well as interesting. They might be worth the extra $$ if you find a pair you like.

A lot of my shoes are Australian brands. In international brands I keep an eye out for Allsaints, & Other Stories and Free People.

Have you considered Reiker or Remonte or are they to "pretty" and predictable? They are good for people with high arches that walk a lot.

  • Lana replied 1 year ago

I’ll check those out Rejoiceandbe, thanks so much!

I have a few pair of A.S. 98 (they are distributed locally and I find them on the second hand market) and vouch for them also.

Seconding All black— they are a rare Taiwanese high-fashion brand and they do beautiful work. They ship to many places and aren’t too expensive.

I think if Miz Mooz and Fly London had a baby, it would be the very comfy Wonders!

  • Jenni NZ replied 1 year ago

Actually I have some Wonders also same as Lesley. They are European made and I agree both cool and comfortable.

AS 98 are gorgeous and comfortable.  I have been looking at them for a while.
